Wonderware Online July 2016 Update

Hey There,

We've recently made yet another update to Wonderware Online for the month of July 2016.

In this exciting release:
  • Flexible new membership model with multi-organizational support
  • Enhanced Security protections against brute force login attempts against a user or by IP address
  • Improved look and feel for the sign up and change/forgot password experience
  • Improved Administration and Data Source Management pages

Flexible new membership model with multi-organizational support

We've finally released a long anticipated feature that allows a single email address and therefore by extension, any Wonderware Online user to have membership in more than one Wonderware Organization (account).

Take a look at the illustrative screenshot and flow of events below.

Quick visual summary of the new multi-organization membership model.

How to switch organizations when already logged into one organization:

Step 1 is showing that when you mouse over your profile silhouette icon, we will overlay the name of the organization that you are logged into as a quick helpful tip. If you actually click on your profile account, now you will see an option to "Switch Organization". This is shown in Step 2.

Step 3 illustrates what the new prompt will look like that will permit users to either (i) switch to any other organization that they maintain membership in or (ii) optionally, create a new organization using the same logged in e-mail address. Note: You can belong to more than two organizations.

What happens upon log in from the main page?

If you log in straight from the main page, you will be immediately prompted to select which organization that you wish to proceed to log into. This is shown in Step 3 in the above example.

Using this new feature, go ahead and collaborate and experiment. Invite your trusted friends, colleagues and partners to your organization to increase collaboration and cooperation. Then ask them to invite you back to their organization to keep everyone aligned, informed and productive together.

Enhanced Security protections against brute force login attempts against a user or by IP address

Security principles and protections are deeply rooted in everything that we do in our constantly evolving and improving offering for Wonderware Online. Often we are hardening our cybersecurity posture with continuous incremental improvements behind the scenes however from time to time, we also make improvements that are visible to our customers. In this release, we've added another layer of protection to safeguard Wonderware Online users from a brute force attack on their stand alone account.

Specifically, we now suspend a user account that has experienced repeated failed login attempts until we can investigate the cause and confirm the account owner is aware of this security event.

Secondly, if multiple failed login attempts across multiple users occur from a common IP address, we will also block further login attempts from that IP address until an investigation can be performed to either clear that IP address or otherwise qualify and mitigate that risk from that source.

Improved look and feel for the sign up and change/forgot password experience

We've made some small user experience tweaks on the sign in and change/ forgot password forms.

Small design changes shown here across the new sign in
and change/forgot password form screens.

Improved Administration and Data Source Management pages

We've whipped up a slightly tweaked user experience for the Administration and Data Source Management modules. In the Data Source management module, you can now paginate across your list of data sources.

New Admin portal landing page.

Finally, we are getting revved up to launch another highly-anticipated feature around our improved tag based security model. The full glory of that feature is coming soon but in the mean time, we've highlighted the "View Location" property associated to each user's membership in your organization. This property will help Wonderware Online administrators quickly scan the scope of access for each user in the organization. In an upcoming feature release, it will be completely natural and configurable with ease to set the scope of access and permissions around a specific subset of tags. To learn more about this capability - check out the blog in another few weeks when we've released the next major incremental piece and where I'll expand more on this topic.

New "View Location" column. A key column for our upcoming
set of improvements to our tag based security model.

Until the next update,
Saadi
