Wonderware SmartGlance MRC Orphaned Reports

In this blog post, I am going to cover an issue that can happen when using the Wonderware SmartGlance Mobile Reporting Connector (MRC). This applies to Wonderware SmartGlance MRC 2014 and up.

ISSUE

  • Orphaned reports appear in the report list when logged into any Wonderware SmartGlance mobile app

CAUSE

  • Orphaned reports primarily happen because the SmartGlance Server tab of the Wonderware SmartGlance Mobile Reporting Connector (MRC) – Configurator have not been filled out.
  • These fields contain the SmartGlance administrator’s credentials which the SmartGlance MRC uses to keep local changes to the MRC synchronized against the SmartGlance Server.

  • For example, if you delete or rename a report local to the SmartGlance MRC, the SmartGlance Server will not be aware of the changes unless a synchronization occurs and thus a deleted report remains on the server (orphaned) and a renamed report eventually becomes a new report instead of an updated existing report.

HOW TO PREVENT THE ISSUE FROM HAPPENING IN THE FUTURE

  • Simply fill in the SmartGlance Server tab of the SmartGlance MRC Configurator.

HOW TO REMOVE EXISTING ORPHANED REPORTS

  • Log into the Wonderware SmartGlance – Web Admin browser console. A link to this website has been conveniently placed directly under the SmartGlance MRC – Configurator SmartGlance Server tab settings called SmartGlance Web Admin.
  • The direct address is: https://www.smartglance.com/webadmin
  • Log in with your SmartGlance administrative credentials (i.e., the credentials of the owner of the Data Transfer ID or Company. These are the same credentials to be used when filling out the SmartGlance Server tab of the SmartGlance MRC – Configurator under the section called SmartGlance Server Web Admin Settings.
  • Once logged in, click on the reports tab
  • Either individually select each report or multi-select multiple reports and then click on the little garbage can icon to delete one by one or the header button called DELETE to delete multiple selections.

HOW TO VALIDATE EVERYTHING IS WORKING

  • Open the Wonderware System Management Console (SMC). Use the trick of CTRL + R to apply a time filter of time now. While leaving this open, rename a report from the SmartGlance MRC. Observe no error or warning message in the SMC.
